1988 – 2010

During the last week of September, 2010, we sadly lost our beloved elderly statesman at the ripe old age of 22. Affectionately known as ‘Dickie’ at home and on the show circuit as ‘The Blonde Bombshell’, he had a full and active life, the last 12 of which were with us. Sadly, the end took us by surprise but he left us with two mares, Sydenham Catmint and Durris Free Spirit, in foal and we look forward to seeing his legacy next Spring.

I feel truly privileged to have had the friendship and companionship of this lovely horse who was not only handsome in looks but also in nature and character.

Other Info: originally purchased from the Janton Stud in 1999 as a riding horse for Pat. With his previous owners, he had been driven very successfully as a single and in a team representing the UK overseas. He had also been produced Under Saddle and used for covering duties. He was produced again Under Saddle in 2002 by Kris McCall when he took several Supreme Championships and won a WPCS Performance Medal. He has also been on the WPCS Display Team.
Regrettably he was seriously injured in a freak accident whilst covering his mares this Spring, but thanks to the miraculous work performed on him by our vet, it is thought he will make a full recovery and should be ready to ride again lightly, this Autumn. He also managed to get his mares in foal before his injury!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On 16th April, 2005, Kris took Dickie to his first competition since coming back into work. The 'two blonde bombshells' (as they are affectionately known at home) had a go at the NERC (Scotland) Preliminary 10 dressage, and WON!!!!!!!!!!! Dickie is, however, still trying to work out the difference between serious dressage and posing!!!!!!

Dickie started 2006 by being placed in Dressage (not bad for an 18 year old). However this will be put on hold for the spring and summer as he is off on loan to the Tullibardine Stud to flutter his eyelashes at their mares.
Having enjoyed his visit to the Tullibardine Stud in 2006, Dickie went to the Carberry Stud in the spring 2007 for a repeat performance!

In 2009, we finally had to retire Dickie from competition due to the start of mild arthritis in his legs. It hasn’t stopped him from going on hacks , having ‘hoolies’ or trying to show up the young bucks! He has also found himself a devoted field companion in the shape of our 21 year old miniature Shetland! And guess who is the boss? Not Dickie!!
